Birmingham Based Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

A greeting from Rebecca:

Welcome! I know that sitting down in front of a therapist for the first time can be scary and vulnerable so I thought I would break the ice by sharing a little bit about myself. First, the ocean and the color blue are two things that consistently spark joy in me. Second, I was born and raised in Birmingham, AL and I come from a big, loud, Italian family. And while family doesn’t always spark joy, I strive to stay healthy so that I can connect to my family in a fulfilling way. Family has always been very important to me, and that’s why I love family systems therapy. So many of our wounds are tied to a relationship (or a lack thereof) and at the same time, healing can only be found through heart to heart connections. Sometimes we are afforded an opportunity to heal in a relationship and sometimes we have to find internal healing with the support of other relationships. Whatever your journey may be, I would be honored to join you in finding your healing.

Therapeutic Approach

Rebecca Lee, LMFT has extensive training in Family Systems Theory and Experiential Therapy. As of June 2024, Rebecca is trained in Attachment Focused EMDR and working towards becoming fully certified. Rebecca specializes in treating trauma, substance use disorders, codependence and interpersonal relationships in the context of individual therapy, couples therapy and family therapy located in Birmingham, AL.

Family Systems Theory

Family Systems Theory views each individual in the context of their emotional unit or family of origin. “Often people feel distant or disconnected from their families, but this is more feeling than fact. Families so profoundly affect their members’ thoughts, feelings, and actions that it often seems as if people are living under the same ‘emotional skin’” (The Bowen Center).

Experiential Therapy

“Experiential therapy is a therapeutic technique that uses expressive tools and activities, such as role-playing or acting, props, arts and crafts, music, animal care, guided imagery, or various forms of recreation to re-enact and re-experience emotional situations from past and recent relationships” (Psychology Today).
